Before joining the BTS, Jin intended to work at his father's company. When he was scouted on the streets due to his otherworldly appearance, he changed his plans. He first got scouted by one of the biggest agencies in South Korea, SM, but he refused to join the agency thinking that it was a scam and that the person approaching him was lying. However, getting approached by Big Hit Entertainment, he agreed to become an idol.
Together with his band member V, Jin sang the OST for the Korean historical drama 'Hwarang: The Poet Warrior' .
He was also an MC for the MAMA awards in 2017 alongside EXO's Chanyeol and Red Velvet's Irene
